Dysport usually lasts 3 to 4 months. Early softening can show within 2 to 5 days, results peak at around two weeks, and movement then returns gradually as the effect wears off. At Skin Anthology, Dysport is $5 per unit on the current price list. This guide walks through the timeline, what makes it last longer or shorter, how it compares with Botox and Daxxify, and when to book again.
How long Dysport lasts
Dysport is an FDA approved neuromodulator that temporarily reduces activity in the muscles behind expression lines. On the Skin Anthology Dysport page, most clients are described as enjoying smoother, more relaxed skin for 3 to 4 months, with longevity varying by metabolism and muscle activity.
Independent sources land in the same place. The American Academy of Dermatology says botulinum toxin treatment for lines and wrinkles lasts about 3 to 4 months, and sometimes longer. The Dysport prescribing information states that its clinical effect on frown lines may last up to four months.
The effect fades gradually rather than switching off on a set date, and returning movement is the cue to plan the next visit.

The Dysport timeline, week by week
- Treatment day: the appointment takes 15 to 30 minutes. Your provider may ask you to make expressions so placement and dose match how your muscles move. Most people feel brief pressure or a quick pinch.
- Days 2 to 5: early softening often starts here. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that most people see results within 3 to 7 days.
- Around two weeks: results reach their peak and have fully settled, so this is the point to judge the outcome with your provider.
- Months 1 to 3: the steady phase, when lines stay soft.
- Months 3 to 4: movement gradually returns and maintenance is typically recommended.
Regular treatment may make results last longer.
The American Academy of Dermatology notes that with repeat treatment for lines and wrinkles, the treated muscle may thin, which can lead to longer lasting results. It also says you can have another treatment once the lines return, rather than on a fixed calendar.
What makes Dysport wear off sooner or later
Two people treated in the same area can see different results. These are the factors that matter most:
- Muscle activity and metabolism. The Skin Anthology Dysport page names these as the main reasons longevity varies.
- Dose and placement. Dosing is individualized to facial anatomy and movement patterns. The aim is to relax the target muscle enough to soften the line without affecting nearby muscles, so natural expression stays.
- Treatment history. Consistent maintenance may extend how long each treatment holds, as noted above.
- The first few hours after treatment. The AAD advises not rubbing or massaging the injected areas, to keep the product from spreading where it is not wanted. Following the aftercare below helps the result settle where it was placed.
Dysport vs Botox vs Daxxify
All three are neuromodulators for expression lines, and Skin Anthology offers each of them. Botox and Dysport are both listed at 3 to 4 months. Daxxify is made with a peptide based stabilizer, and many patients find its results last about 3 to 6 months, so maintenance is often every 4 to 6 months.
| Product | Current price | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Dysport | $5 per unit | 3 to 4 months |
| Botox | $14 per unit | 3 to 4 months |
| Daxxify | Per unit, quoted at consultation | 3 to 6 months |

The per unit prices look very different, but they are not a like for like comparison. The Dysport prescribing information says its units cannot be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product. A treatment plan is built in the units of the product you choose, so compare the total your injector quotes, not the unit price.
50 units is the approved Dysport dose for frown lines.
The Dysport prescribing information sets the dose for the lines between the brows at 50 units, given as five injections of 10 units each. At $5 a unit on the current price list, that dose would be $250. Your own dose depends on your anatomy, the areas treated and your goals, so it may be higher or lower.
Before and after your appointment
Before. Avoid alcohol and, when possible, strenuous exercise for 24 hours to help reduce bruising. If it is medically appropriate, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and blood thinning supplements beforehand, but never stop a prescribed blood thinner or other prescription medicine without guidance from the clinician who prescribed it. Hold retinoids and exfoliating acids on the area for several days, and arrive with minimal makeup.
Tell your provider about allergies, medical or neuromuscular conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, medications and supplements, and past toxin or filler treatments.
After. Do not touch, rub, massage or apply makeup to treated areas for at least one hour. Stay upright and avoid bending forward, lying flat or strenuous activity for four hours. For 24 hours, skip alcohol, saunas, hot tubs, intense exercise and prolonged sun, since extra circulation can add to bruising or swelling.
What is normal. Mild redness, swelling or bruising at injection sites can occur and typically resolves within several days. The AAD lists a temporarily droopy brow or eyelid as a rare side effect, and the AAD overview notes most patients return to everyday activities right away. Contact the clinic if anything concerns you.

Where you get treated matters.
The American Academy of Dermatology warns that injecting botulinum toxin bought without a medical license has caused long term muscle paralysis and permanent eye damage, and that getting injections in a non medical setting can be extremely dangerous. At Skin Anthology, treatments are performed in a medical setting using sterile technique.
When to book your next treatment
Maintenance is typically recommended every 3 to 4 months to keep results steady and help prevent deeper expression lines from forming. That rhythm fits the prescribing information, which says Dysport for frown lines should be given no more often than every three months.
Dysport pairs well with dermal fillers, microneedling and skin tightening for texture, tone and volume. If brown spots are part of your goals, the laser for dark spots guide covers sessions and pricing, and the CO2 laser downtime guide explains recovery for deeper resurfacing.
